OK OK OK.Dear birther buddies -- and to varying extent, tea party folks -- please: let us in on the magic words we're supposed to use to snap you out of your prolonged state of denial. We can't wait for you to get over the fact that we legitimately have a black President of the United States, whose father was Muslim, and one of whose names is Hussein.
Because I have -- well, let's just call it a strong hunch -- that once you get there, you stand a.. really quite measurable chance of realizing that those things are irrelevant, except for ways in which they are enormous boons. And then you may notice that the whole socialism thing really doesn't make sense, either. Like, huh? Yeah. Exactly.
And I know it might be totally batty for me to suggest this, but without that stuff scaring you for absolutely no reason, I have to think you could see -- as clearly as pretty much all the rest of us -- that plain as day, we have a decent, principled, responsive President, who appears to be part of a really healthy, loving family and, as regards the other two co-equal branches of our government, has made a consistent priority of principle over powermongering.
And given all this evidence of him being frankly pretty good at life, all in all -- and minus all of the reactive, angry denial -- how could you not see that we have a competent administration battling through one of the most challenging periods in recent American history without complaint or even a hint of resignation? Even though there's a bunch of you people who frankly are letting us down by being so crappy about all of this.
I mean, am I wrong, team birther? Tea partiers? Is there not a largely emotional component to your reaction? Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of emotion over here, too. But I'm pretty sure I know where that's taking me. Have you thought about your trajectory?
Search your feeeelings. Ah, as they say. Ahem.
But for real: We're really, really ready. I mean it. I mean, I think I speak for everyone basically. Stop making us read about this. Please. Get on board. No one loves a squeaky wheel. We do respect a good driver, though. What do you say?
